U.S. Army Sergeant Issac Brandon Jackson, 27, of Plattsburg, Missouri, died on October 27, 2009, in the Arghandab Valley, Afghanistan, while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment.
Their Story
Issac Brandon Jackson was born in Plattsburg, Missouri, and enlisted in the United States Army. He was assigned as a sergeant to Company C, 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Lewis, Washington.
On October 27, 2009, Sergeant Jackson was killed by hostile fire in Afghanistan's Arghandab Valley, a district in Kandahar province. The Department of Defense announced his death the following day, stating he died of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device while on a dismounted patrol.
Jackson's death occurred during a period of intense fighting in the Arghandab Valley, part of a larger U.S. troop surge in southern Afghanistan. The 5th Stryker Brigade was engaged in clearing operations against Taliban insurgents who had heavily mined the agricultural region.
The Army posthumously awarded Jackson the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Good Conduct Medal. He was survived by his wife, parents, and siblings. His funeral was held in his hometown of Plattsburg.
