Infante, Jesse
U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jesse Infante, 30, of Houston, Texas, died on August 30, 2010, in the Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan, from hostile action.
Their Story
Jesse Infante was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, assigned to Company F, 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Carson, Colorado. He was a native of Houston, Texas, and was 30 years old at the time of his deployment to Afghanistan.
On August 30, 2010, Infante was killed in the Arghandab River Valley of Kandahar province. According to the Department of Defense, his death resulted from hostile action. The valley was a known insurgent stronghold and a focal point for coalition clearing operations during that period.
Infante's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In the summer of 2010, U.S. and allied forces were engaged in a major offensive in Kandahar, with the Arghandab River Valley being a strategically significant and heavily contested area.
The Department of Defense announced Infante's death in a press release on September 1, 2010. He was one of at least seven U.S. service members killed in Afghanistan during that week, according to contemporaneous news reports.
Infante is memorialized on the Afghanistan War casualty lists maintained by the Department of Defense and on several online veterans' memorial sites. His unit, the 1st Brigade Combat Team, returned to Fort Carson from its deployment in early 2011.
