Their Story

Clayton James Horne was a 23-year-old specialist from Atlanta, Louisiana. He served with the 351st Military Police Company, 160th Military Police Battalion, 209th Military Police Brigade, a Florida National Guard unit based in Ocala. The unit deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Horne died on August 17, 2019, in Eskan Village, Saudi Arabia. The official release stated he was killed in action, but did not provide specific details on the incident. Eskan Village is a residential complex near Riyadh used to house U.S. military personnel.

Operation Inherent Resolve is the U.S.-led military intervention against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria. It began in August 2014 after ISIS seized large territories in both countries. The conflict involved a coalition of nations conducting airstrikes and providing ground support to local forces.

Following his death, the U.S. Army and the Florida National Guard issued statements confirming the loss. His body was returned to the United States, and a funeral service was held in his hometown of Atlanta, Louisiana.

Specialist Horne was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Purple Heart. He is remembered by his unit and community as a dedicated soldier.
