Lance Cpl. Hunter Dalton Hogan, 21, of Norman, Indiana, was a U.S. Marine killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on June 23, 2012.

Their Story

Hunter Dalton Hogan was from Norman, Indiana. He served as a Lance Corporal with the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, part of the 2nd Marine Division based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. According to the Marine Corps, his service included deployments to Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.

On June 23, 2012, Hogan was killed during operations in Helmand province, a volatile region in southern Afghanistan. The Department of Defense announced his death, stating the cause was hostile action. No further specifics regarding the incident were released in initial reports.

Hogan's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In 2012, Helmand province remained a focal point of intense fighting between coalition forces and Taliban insurgents, with the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines heavily engaged in security operations.

Following his death, Hogan's body was returned to the United States. A funeral service was held in his hometown of Norman, Indiana, where he was remembered by family, friends, and fellow service members.
