Matthew Lee Hilton was a 37-year-old sergeant first class from Livonia, Michigan. He served with Company F, 425th Infantry Regiment, a unit of the Michigan Army National Guard based at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
On June 26, 2008, Hilton was killed in the vicinity of Forward Operating Base Shank in Logar Province, Afghanistan. The U.S. Department of Defense stated his death was the result of a hostile incident, but did not release further operational details.
