Their Story

Hernandez, Tony Leigh was 22 and from CANYON LAKE, TX when he joined the Active Duty, MARINE CORPS, HMH-361, MAG-16, 3D MAW MCAS, MIRAMAR, CA as LCPL. Operation Iraqi Freedom would take his life.

He did not survive OIF. The MARINE CORPS recorded his death on January 26, 2005 in KOREAN VILLAGE, IRAQ.

The years 2005?2007 were OIF's deadliest. Sectarian violence surged after the 2006 bombing of the al-Askari shrine in Samarra. American troops were caught between militias, insurgents, and a government that barely functioned.
