Sergeant First Class Christopher Dale Henderson was a 35-year-old soldier from Hillsboro, Oregon. He served on active duty with the U.S. Army, assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division (Transition Team) out of Fort Riley, Kansas.
On June 17, 2007, Henderson died in Panjway, a volatile district in Kandahar province. According to the Defense Casualty Analysis System, his death was the result of hostile action. A contemporaneous news report from the Department of Defense stated he was killed when his unit came under small arms fire during combat operations.
Henderson's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2007, the conflict was in a phase of intense counterinsurgency, with Taliban forces mounting a significant resurgence, particularly in southern provinces like Kandahar where Panjway is located.
