Their Story

Sergeant First Class Christopher Dale Henderson was a 35-year-old soldier from Hillsboro, Oregon. He served on active duty with the U.S. Army, assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division (Transition Team) out of Fort Riley, Kansas.

On June 17, 2007, Henderson died in Panjway, a volatile district in Kandahar province. According to the Defense Casualty Analysis System, his death was the result of hostile action. By 2007, the conflict was in a phase of intense counterinsurgency, with Taliban forces mounting a significant resurgence, particularly in southern provinces like Kandahar where Panjway is located.

His death was announced by the Department of Defense on June 19, 2007. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart, as documented in military casualty releases.
