U.S. Army Colonel James Warren Harrison Jr., 47, of Waynesville, Missouri, was killed in a hostile incident in Kabul, Afghanistan, on May 6, 2007.

Their Story

Colonel James Warren Harrison Jr. was a 47-year-old career officer from Waynesville, Missouri. At the time of his death, he was assigned to the United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, a prestigious institution for senior military education.

Harrison was killed on May 6, 2007, in Kabul, Afghanistan. According to U.S. military reports, he was shot by an Afghan National Army soldier while visiting a military training facility in the capital. The incident was investigated as a possible insider attack, a recurring threat during the conflict.

Harrison's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2007, the mission had shifted from major combat operations to counterinsurgency and training Afghan security forces, a period marked by escalating violence and complex security challenges.

The Pentagon confirmed Harrison's death the following day. He was one of at least 80 U.S. service members killed in Afghanistan in 2007. His remains were returned to the United States for burial.

Colonel Harrison's name is inscribed on the Afghanistan War Memorial at Fort Benning and is listed on the Pentagon's casualty roster. His death is documented as part of the toll of a long conflict where non-combat training missions carried significant risk.
