Lance Corporal Scott Daniel Harper, 21, of Winston, Georgia, was a U.S. Marine killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on October 13, 2011, during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Their Story
Scott Daniel Harper was a 21-year-old from Winston, Georgia. He served as a Lance Corporal with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, part of Regimental Combat Team 8, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
On October 13, 2011, Harper died while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, a volatile region in southern Afghanistan. The U.S. Department of Defense stated his death was the result of hostile action. Specific details of the incident were not widely released, but his unit was engaged in counterinsurgency efforts in the area at the time.
Harper's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001.
