Eric William Hario was a 19-year-old soldier from Monroe, Michigan. He served as a Private First Class assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia.
According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Hario died on August 29, 2009, at Forward Operating Base Sharana in Paktika Province, Afghanistan. The official cause was listed as hostile fire. No further operational details of the incident were publicly released by the military.
His death occurred during a period of intense fighting in the Afghanistan War, known to the U.S. as Operation Enduring Freedom.
