John Eric Hansen was a 41-year-old Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. He was assigned to Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, part of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.
