Their Story
Private First Class Jonathon David Hall was a 23-year-old soldier from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served with Company A, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Hall was reportedly wounded by an improvised explosive device (IED) while on a dismounted patrol in the Konar province of eastern Afghanistan. He was evacuated for treatment to the U.S. military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, where he died from his injuries on April 8, 2010.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In 2010, the conflict was characterized by a surge in U.S. troop levels and intense counterinsurgency operations, particularly in eastern provinces like Konar.
