Their Story

Brandon Eugene Hadaway was a 25-year-old sergeant from Valley, Alabama. He served with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Aviation Brigade, a unit based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, that provided helicopter support for combat operations.

On May 30, 2007, Hadaway was killed in the Upper Sangin Valley, a region of Helmand Province known for intense insurgent activity. According to the Department of Defense, he died of wounds sustained from hostile fire at a landing zone known as LZ Stella during combat operations.

Hadaway's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001.
