Marcos Antonio Gorra was a 22-year-old from North Bergen, New Jersey. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company F, 2nd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Sgt. Gorra died on February 21, 2010, from wounds sustained in combat. He was medically evacuated to the Role III Hospital at Kandahar Airfield, a major NATO medical facility in southern Afghanistan, where he was pronounced dead.

Gorra's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In early 2010, the conflict was marked by a significant increase in U.S. troop levels and intense fighting in southern provinces like Kandahar, a Taliban stronghold.

His death was reported by several New Jersey and national news outlets. The Army posthumously awarded him the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other commendations for his service.

Sgt. Gorra is memorialized on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the North Bergen Public Library and on online veterans' memorials. His unit, the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, continued its deployment in support of coalition operations.
