Their Story

Brandon Dwayne Goodine was a 20-year-old soldier from Luthersville, Georgia. He served as a Private First Class with Troop B, 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

On June 7, 2012, Goodine was killed by enemy small-arms fire during a dismounted patrol in the Maiwand district of Kandahar province, Afghanistan. The U.S. Department of Defense stated he was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Operation Enduring Freedom was the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan, which began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks. The mission involved counter-insurgency operations against Taliban and al-Qaeda forces.

Goodine's death was reported by the Department of Defense and noted in casualty lists published by major news outlets. He was one of at least 31 U.S. service members killed in Afghanistan in June 2012.

He is memorialized on the Afghanistan War Casualties website and is listed on the Fort Bragg casualty roster for Operation Enduring Freedom.
