Sgt. Chad Dennis Frokjer, 27, of Maplewood, Minnesota, was a U.S. Marine killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on June 30, 2011.
Their Story
Chad Dennis Frokjer was a 27-year-old sergeant from Maplewood, Minnesota, serving with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 8, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), based out of Camp Pendleton, California. He was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Sgt. Frokjer died on June 30, 2011, in Helmand province, Afghanistan. The official cause was listed as hostile action. No further operational details of the incident were publicly released by the Marine Corps.
His death occurred during a period of intense fighting in Helmand, a Taliban stronghold and the center of Afghanistan's opium production. The U.S.-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was engaged in a major campaign to secure population centers and train Afghan forces in the province.
