Demetrius Montaz Frison was a 26-year-old U.S. Army officer from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He served as a First Lieutenant with Company A, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Knox, Kentucky. According to the Department of Defense, his service included deployments to Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.
On May 10, 2011, Frison was killed by enemy small arms fire in Chergataw, a village in the volatile Kunar province of eastern Afghanistan. He was part of a unit conducting counterinsurgency operations in the region, which was a known stronghold for insurgent forces.
Frison's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks. The operation's objective, as stated by the U.S. government, was to dismantle al-Qaeda and remove the Taliban regime from power.
