Corporal Jacob Rudeloff Fleischer, 25, of St. Louis, Missouri, was a U.S. Army infantryman killed in action on November 24, 2004, in Deh Rawod, Afghanistan.

Their Story

Jacob Rudeloff Fleischer was a 25-year-old from St. Louis, Missouri. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, part of the 25th Infantry Division based at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

On November 24, 2004, Fleischer was killed during a combat operation in Deh Rawod, a district in Afghanistan's Oruzgan province. According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, he died from hostile fire. The operation was part of a broader mission to clear Taliban and anti-coalition militia forces from the region.

Fleischer's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In late 2004, U.S. and allied forces were engaged in counterinsurgency operations across southern and eastern Afghanistan, focusing on provinces like Oruzgan where insurgent activity was prevalent.

Following his death, Fleischer's body was returned to the United States. He was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis County, Missouri. The Army posthumously awarded him the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Corporal Fleischer is remembered on memorials at Schofield Barracks and in his hometown. His name is inscribed on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the National Infantry Museum in Georgia.
