John Felix Farias was a 20-year-old Marine from New Braunfels, Texas. He served as a lance corporal with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, part of Regimental Combat Team 8, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), based out of Camp Pendleton, California.
