Vincent James Ellis was a 22-year-old American soldier from FPO, serving as a Private First Class. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, part of Combined Joint Task Force-1 (Task Force Spartan).
Ellis was wounded in a hostile incident in Afghanistan. He was subsequently evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, a major U.S. military hospital for treating combat casualties from the Middle East and Southwest Asia. He died there from his wounds on June 4, 2012.
