Their Story

Jason Kyle Edens was born on September 28, 1989, and grew up in Franklin, Tennessee. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a cavalry scout with Troop C, 1st Squadron, 13th Cavalry Regiment, part of the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Bliss, Texas.

On April 7, 2012, Specialist Edens was on patrol in the Maiwand district of Kandahar province, Afghanistan. His vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED). He sustained severe wounds and was evacuated for medical treatment.

Following the attack, Edens was transported to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He died there on April 26, 2012. The Department of Defense announced his death the following day.
