Scott William Dyer was a 38-year-old Chief Warrant Officer 2 from Cocoa Beach, Florida. He served with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The unit specialized in unconventional warfare and foreign internal defense.
Dyer died on October 12, 2006, at the military hospital at Kandahar Airfield. According to the Department of Defense, his death was the result of wounds sustained from hostile enemy action. The specific incident that caused his fatal injuries was not detailed in the initial casualty report.
