Their Story

Michael Stephen Duskin was a 42-year-old Chief Warrant Officer 2 assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was from Orange Park, Florida.

According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Duskin died on October 23, 2012, in Chak District, Wardak Province, Afghanistan. The official cause was listed as hostile fire. He was reportedly killed by small arms fire during an engagement with insurgent forces.

Duskin's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By late 2012, the conflict was in its eleventh year, with U.S. and coalition forces engaged in counterinsurgency and stability operations alongside Afghan National Security Forces.

Following his death, Duskin was posthumously promoted from Warrant Officer 1 to Chief Warrant Officer 2. His awards included the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Meritorious Service Medal. He was survived by his wife and children.

His name is inscribed on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is also memorialized on the Special Operations Memorial at Fort Bragg.
