Sean Michael Durkin was a 24-year-old soldier from Aurora, Colorado. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, part of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Carson, Colorado.
According to the Department of Defense, Sergeant Durkin died on April 9, 2010, at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, Washington. He was wounded in a hostile incident in Afghanistan on April 4, 2010, and was evacuated to the United States for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.
His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001.
