Dupont, Steven Lloyd

Steven Lloyd Dupont was a 20-year-old from Lafayette, Louisiana, who served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, based in Vilseck, Germany.

According to U.S. Department of Defense casualty reports, Dupont died on October 24, 2010, in Rangrizan, Afghanistan, from wounds sustained in a hostile incident. The specific nature of the engagement was not detailed in the initial release, but it occurred in Kandahar province, a region of intense insurgent activity at the time.

His death came during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By late 2010, the conflict was marked by a significant U.S. troop surge and major combat operations in southern Afghanistan, including Kandahar.

The Army announced his death in a press release on October 26, 2010. He was survived by his mother and stepfather, who were notified at their home in Louisiana.
