Technical Sergeant Daniel Lee Douville, 33, of Harvey, Louisiana, was a U.S. Air Force civil engineer. He was killed by hostile action on June 26, 2011, near the border of Nad' Ali district in Afghanistan's Helmand province.

Their Story

Daniel Lee Douville was a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force, assigned to the 96th Civil Engineer Squadron based at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. He was 33 years old and from Harvey, Louisiana. His unit specialized in construction, engineering, and force protection, skills critical to building and securing forward operating bases in conflict zones. According to Air Force records, his service included deployments to Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.

On June 26, 2011, Douville was killed by enemy small arms fire. The incident occurred near the border of the Nad' Ali district in Helmand province, a region that was a focal point of intense fighting between coalition forces and Taliban insurgents at the time. He was reportedly part of a security detail when his unit came under attack.

Douville's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By mid-2011, the conflict was in its tenth year, with a surge of U.S. forces deployed to southern Afghanistan to conduct counterinsurgency operations and train Afghan security forces. Helmand province was a major center of this effort and of Taliban activity.

Following his death, the Air Force posthumously promoted Douville to the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was survived by his wife and children. The 96th Air Base Wing at Eglin Air Force Base held a memorial service in his honor, and his name is inscribed on the Eglin Memorial Wall.

Technical Sergeant Douville is remembered by his unit as a dedicated engineer and leader. His name is listed on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and is included in the Pentagon's official casualty records for Operation Enduring Freedom.
