Disney, Jason A
U.S. Army Specialist Jason A. Disney, 20, of Fallon, Nevada, was killed in action on February 13, 2002, at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan.
Their Story
Jason A. Disney was a 20-year-old soldier from Fallon, Nevada. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army's 58th Maintenance Company, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His unit deployed to Afghanistan in the opening months of Operation Enduring Freedom.
On February 13, 2002, Disney was killed at Bagram Air Base, a major coalition hub north of Kabul. According to the Department of Defense, he was fatally wounded by small arms fire while on guard duty. The incident occurred during a period of heightened security at the base.
Disney's death came roughly four months after the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan began in October 2001. By early 2002, major Taliban strongholds had fallen, and operations shifted to securing bases and pursuing remnant forces. Bagram was a central staging area for these continuing missions.
Disney's death was reported by several news outlets, including the Reno Gazette-Journal, which noted he was the first service member from Fallon to die in the conflict. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals.
He is memorialized on the Fallon Churchill County Veterans Memorial and at the Nevada Veterans Memorial in Carson City. His name is inscribed on Panel 9W, Line 122 of the Afghanistan War Memorial at the National Infantry Museum.
