Corporal Patrick David Deans was from Orlando, Florida. He was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was 22 years old at the time of his deployment to Afghanistan.
On December 12, 2010, Deans was killed in Howz e Madad, a village in the Zhari District of Kandahar province. According to U.S. military reports, he died from wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. The attack occurred during a security operation in the volatile district west of Kandahar city.
Deans was killed during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001.
