Their Story

Adam James Davis was a 19-year-old soldier from Twin Falls, Idaho. He served as a Specialist with Company D, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, based in Vicenza, Italy. His unit, part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, deployed to Afghanistan in 2007.

On July 23, 2007, Davis died in Sarobi District, Afghanistan. The Department of Defense stated his death was the result of a vehicle rollover during a patrol. The incident was classified as a hostile event, though no direct enemy fire was reported in the initial release. He was one of two soldiers killed in the rollover.

Davis was killed during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By mid-2007, the conflict was in a period of intense fighting as Taliban forces regrouped and contested control of rural districts like Sarobi, east of Kabul.

His death was announced by the Department of Defense. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other service medals. His body was returned to Idaho for burial.

Davis is remembered on memorials in Idaho and by his unit. His name is inscribed on the 173rd Airborne Brigade memorial in Italy and listed in the Pentagon's official casualty records for the war.
