Kerry Michael George Danyluk was a 27-year-old native of Cuero, Texas. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, New York.
According to the Department of Defense, Danyluk died on April 15, 2014, at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. He had been medically evacuated from Afghanistan after being wounded by enemy small arms fire in Nangarhar Province on April 12. The Pentagon stated he was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Operation Enduring Freedom was the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2014, the mission was in a period of transition, with U.S. and NATO forces shifting from a combat role to one focused on training and advising Afghan National Security Forces.
Following his death, Danyluk's body was returned to Texas. The Cuero community held memorial services, and he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. His name is inscribed on the Texas Capitol's memorial for veterans of the Global War on Terror.
