Kevin Alexander Cueto, a 23-year-old U.S. Marine Corporal from San Jose, California, was killed in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on June 22, 2010.

Their Story

Kevin Alexander Cueto was born in San Jose, California. He served as an active-duty Marine with the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, part of Regimental Combat Team 2, I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), based out of Twentynine Palms, California.

On June 22, 2010, Corporal Cueto was killed by hostile action while conducting operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. The Department of Defense announcement did not specify the exact nature of the incident, which was reported as part of a period of intense fighting in the region.

His death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In mid-2010, U.S. and coalition forces were engaged in a major offensive in Helmand province, a Taliban stronghold and center of opium production, aiming to clear insurgent-held areas.

Following his death, Cueto was posthumously promoted to the rank of Corporal. He was buried with military honors. Public records and memorial pages indicate he was survived by family in San Jose.

Corporal Cueto is memorialized on the 'Wall of Heroes' at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms and on the online 'Faces of the Fallen' database maintained by The Washington Post.
