Douglas Leonard Cordo was a 20-year-old soldier from Kingston, New York. He served as a Private First Class with Company B, 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, part of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
On August 19, 2011, Cordo was killed in Shah Joy, a district in Zabul province, Afghanistan. The U.S. Department of Defense stated his death was the result of a hostile incident. According to contemporaneous reporting, his unit was engaged in combat operations in the region at the time.
