Their Story
From KILLEN, AL, CPL Conley, Matthew Dwain, serving with WPNS CO, 3D BN, 7TH MAR, (2-28 BCT, 2D MAR DIV), TWENTYNINE PALMS, CA, was 21 years old when he deployed with the MARINE CORPS to Iraq.
He did not survive OIF. The MARINE CORPS recorded his death on February 19, 2006 in AR RAMADI, IRAQ, from HOSTILE.
The years 2005?2007 were OIF's deadliest. Sectarian violence surged after the 2006 bombing of the al-Askari shrine in Samarra. American troops were caught between militias, insurgents, and a government that barely functioned.
