On 4 March 2026, the Iranian Navy frigate IRIS Dena was sunk in the Indian Ocean south of Galle, Sri Lanka. The US Navy's Los Angeles-class submarine USS Charlotte was identified as having fired the torpedo. The Dena was returning from the MILAN 2026 naval exercise in India. An estimated 87 to 104 Iranian sailors were killed, with 32 survivors rescued by the Sri Lanka Navy.
