Kyle Aaron Comfort was a captain in the United States Army, assigned to Company D, 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, based at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was 27 years old and from Jacksonville, Alabama. According to his unit, his military service included deployments to Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.

Captain Comfort died on May 8, 2010, in the Now Zad district of Afghanistan's Helmand province. He was killed by the blast of an improvised explosive device while on a dismounted patrol, according to U.S. Department of Defense statements.
