Private First Class Benjamen Glen Chisholm, 24, of Fort Worth, Texas, was a U.S. Army infantryman. He was killed in action on August 17, 2010, in Managai, Kunar Province, Afghanistan.
Their Story
Benjamen Glen Chisholm was a 24-year-old soldier from Fort Worth, Texas. He served as a Private First Class with Company D, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. His unit was part of the 101st Airborne Division.
On August 17, 2010, Chisholm was killed by enemy small-arms fire during a dismounted patrol in the village of Managai, located in Kunar Province, eastern Afghanistan. The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed the incident, stating he died of wounds sustained in a hostile attack.
Chisholm's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan. In 2010, U.S. troop levels were at their peak following a surge ordered by President Barack Obama. Kunar Province was a known insurgent stronghold where U.S. forces conducted frequent counterinsurgency patrols.
According to a Department of Defense news release, his death was announced on August 18, 2010. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other commendations. His remains were returned to the United States.
Chisholm is memorialized on the 101st Airborne Division memorial at Fort Campbell and on online veterans' memorials. His name is inscribed on Panel 7W, Line 13 of the Afghanistan War Memorial at the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, Georgia.
