George Walter Cauley was a 24-year-old specialist from Walker, Minnesota. He served in the Minnesota Army National Guard, assigned to the 114th Transportation Company, 100th Brigade Support Battalion, 45th Joint Logistics Command.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Cauley died on October 10, 2009, at Bagram Airfield, a major coalition base north of Kabul. The official casualty report listed his death as resulting from hostile action. A subsequent report from the Minnesota National Guard indicated he was killed by an improvised explosive device.
Cauley's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. The conflict saw intense fighting in provinces surrounding Kabul, with insurgents frequently targeting coalition supply routes and major bases like Bagram.
