Their Story
Jacob Russell Carver was a 20-year-old soldier from Freeman, Missouri. He served as a corporal in Company B, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
On November 13, 2010, Carver was killed in Zhari District, Kandahar province, Afghanistan. The Department of Defense stated his death was the result of hostile action. Specific details of the engagement were not publicly released by the military.
Carver's death occurred during the 2010 troop surge in Afghanistan, a major escalation of Operation Enduring Freedom. Zhari District, a rural area west of Kandahar city, was a longtime Taliban stronghold and the scene of intense counterinsurgency operations throughout the war.
