Bryan Allan Burgess was a 29-year-old Staff Sergeant from Cleburne, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The unit was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.
According to the Department of Defense, Burgess died on March 29, 2011, at Bagram Airfield in Parwan province. He was killed by enemy small arms fire while on patrol. The incident was part of a larger engagement in the area that day.
Burgess was killed during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. The operation focused on counterinsurgency against Taliban and al-Qaeda forces. The 101st Airborne Division was heavily engaged in eastern Afghanistan during this period.
His death was reported by multiple news outlets, including the Fort Campbell Courier and the Cleburne Times-Review. The Army posthumously awarded him the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Meritorious Service Medal.
