Lance Corporal Jared William Brown, 20, of Youngstown, Florida, was a U.S. Marine killed in action in Helmand province, Afghanistan, on June 16, 2013.
Their Story
Jared William Brown was from Youngstown, a small community in the Florida Panhandle. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, part of the 2nd Marine Division based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
On June 16, 2013, Brown was killed in Helmand province, a volatile region in southern Afghanistan. According to the Department of Defense, he died from wounds sustained while conducting combat operations. Specific details of the engagement were not publicly released by the military.
Brown's death occurred during the final years of Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001.
