Julian Thomas Brennan was a 25-year-old lance corporal from Brooklyn, New York, serving with the United States Marine Corps. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, part of the ground combat element of the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Afghanistan, based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
On January 24, 2009, Brennan was killed during combat operations in the Bala Boluk district of Afghanistan's Farah province. According to the Department of Defense, his death resulted from hostile fire. He was the first U.S. service member reported killed in Farah province that year.
