Bowers, Jamal Hasan

Master Sergeant Jamal Hasan Bowers was a senior non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company A, 6th Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne), 4th Military Information Support Group, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The 41-year-old from Raleigh, North Carolina, had deployed to multiple theaters, including Afghanistan and the Philippines, as part of his service.

Bowers died on March 18, 2011, at Camp Lemonnier, a U.S. expeditionary base in Djibouti. According to the Department of Defense, he was killed in action. The specific details of the incident that led to his death were not publicly disclosed by military officials.

His death occurred under the umbrella of Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign that began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks. The operation included counterterrorism activities across several regions, including the Horn of Africa, where Djibouti serves as a key logistical and operational hub.
