Corporal Jason Michael Bogar, 25, of Seattle, Washington, was a U.S. Army infantryman serving in Afghanistan. He was killed in a hostile incident at Forward Operating Base Fenty on July 13, 2008.

Their Story

Jason Michael Bogar was a 25-year-old soldier from Seattle, Washington. He served as a Corporal with Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, based at Camp Ederle in Vicenza, Italy.

On July 13, 2008, Corporal Bogar was killed by enemy small-arms fire during a firefight at Forward Operating Base Fenty in Nangarhar Province, eastern Afghanistan. The base, located near the city of Jalalabad, was a frequent target for insurgent attacks.

Bogar's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By 2008, insurgent forces had regrouped, and violence was intensifying across the country, particularly in the eastern provinces bordering Pakistan.

Following his death, Bogar was posthumously promoted to the rank of Corporal. He was survived by his parents and siblings. His body was returned to the United States for burial.

Corporal Bogar is memorialized on the Afghanistan War casualty lists and by veterans' organizations associated with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. His battalion, the 2-503rd, sustained significant casualties during its 2007-2008 deployment.
