Bocks, Phillip Allen

Phillip Allen Bocks was a 28-year-old sergeant from Troy, Michigan. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps, assigned to the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, California. According to military records, his service included deployments to Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.

On November 9, 2007, Sgt. Bocks was killed in Aranus, a district in Afghanistan's Kunar Province near the border with Pakistan. The Department of Defense stated he died from wounds sustained during a hostile engagement. Specific details of the firefight were not released in initial casualty reports.
