U.S. Army Specialist William Seth Blevins, 21, of Sardinia, Ohio, died on May 23, 2011, at Forward Operating Base Bostick, Afghanistan, from hostile action during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Their Story

William Seth Blevins was a 21-year-old soldier from the small village of Sardinia, Ohio. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, based out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

On May 23, 2011, Blevins was killed by indirect fire at Forward Operating Base Bostick in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. The Department of Defense stated his death was the result of hostile enemy action. Another soldier, Private First Class Andrew M. Krippner, 20, was killed in the same attack.

Blevins died during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. In 2011, the war was in its tenth year, with U.S. and NATO forces engaged in counterinsurgency operations, particularly in the volatile eastern provinces like Kunar.

His body was returned to the United States, and he was buried in Sardinia Cemetery. The Army posthumously awarded him the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other commendations. His hometown held memorial services, and his name was added to local veterans' memorials.

He is remembered by family, friends, and fellow soldiers from the 27th Infantry Regiment, known as the 'Wolfhounds.' His death, alongside that of Pfc. Krippner, was noted as part of the sustained combat losses in Kunar Province during that period of the war.
