Keith Robert Bishop was a 28-year-old from Medford, New York. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
On October 26, 2009, Bishop was killed by enemy small-arms fire during a combat operation in the village of Darreh-ye Bum, located in Afghanistan's Zabul province. The operation was part of a larger mission in the volatile region.
Bishop's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. The conflict involved coalition forces, the Afghan National Army, and insurgent groups, primarily the Taliban.
His death was reported by the Department of Defense. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Meritorious Service Medal. Bishop was survived by his wife and parents.
