Master Sergeant Adam Frank Benjamin was a 34-year-old Marine from Garfield, Ohio. He served with the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, part of the 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward) based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. His unit was deployed to Afghanistan as part of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade.
On August 18, 2009, Benjamin was killed in the vicinity of Combat Outpost Payne in Afghanistan's Helmand province. According to U.S. military reports, he died from wounds sustained during a hostile incident. No further details about the specific attack were publicly released by the Department of Defense.
