According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Sergeant Argonish died on August 27, 2007, at Forward Operating Base Naray in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. The official casualty report listed the cause as hostile fire. The base, located in a volatile region near the Pakistani border, was a frequent target for insurgent attacks, including rocket and mortar fire.

Argonish's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001.
