Lance Corporal James David Argentine, 22, of Farmingdale, New York, was a U.S. Marine killed in Farah Province, Afghanistan, on August 6, 2009.
Their Story
James David Argentine was a 22-year-old Marine from Farmingdale, a community on Long Island, New York. He served with Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, which was part of the 3rd Marine Division based at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii. His unit had previously deployed to locations including the Philippines and the Horn of Africa before its assignment to Afghanistan.
On August 6, 2009, Argentine was killed during combat operations in the Bala Baluk district of Afghanistan's Farah Province. According to U.S. military reports, he died from wounds sustained in a hostile incident. The Department of Defense stated he was supporting combat operations in the volatile province at the time of his death.
Argentine's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001. By mid-2009, the conflict was in a period of intense fighting, with a surge of U.S. forces deployed to counter insurgent activity, particularly in southern and western provinces like Farah.
