Their Story

Frank Edward Adamski III was a 26-year-old soldier from Moosup, Connecticut. He served as a Staff Sergeant (SSG) with Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

On March 29, 2011, Adamski died from wounds sustained during a hostile incident in Sarkani, a district in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province. The Department of Defense announced his death the following day, stating he was killed by enemy small-arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations.

Adamski's death occurred during a period of intense fighting in Kunar, a mountainous region bordering Pakistan. U.S. and allied forces were engaged in counterinsurgency operations against Taliban and other militant groups. The 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment was part of a significant troop presence in the region during the 2010-2011 timeframe.

Following the announcement, Adamski was remembered in his home state of Connecticut. Governor Dannel P. Malloy ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in his honor. His funeral was held at Saint Joseph Church in his hometown of Moosup.

Staff Sergeant Adamski was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Meritorious Service Medal. He is memorialized on the Afghanistan War Memorial at the Connecticut Veterans Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
